Domestic Tourism Has Skyrocketed To 84% From 28%, Says Tourism Ministry

The Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities has embarked on marketing domestic tourism in a bid to have more Ugandans explore their country.

State Minister for Tourism, Martin Mugarra Bahinduka, says domestic travellers have increased exponentially from 28% before COVID to 84% currently.

The Hon. Mugarra made the remakes while presenting the Tourism Ministry’s achievements in implementing the NRM Manifesto in the ongoing activities of Manifesto Week.

The government is currently putting the focus on promoting domestic tourism to ensure the sustainability of the tourism business amidst declines in international tourist arrivals.

The State Minister for Tourism, Martin Mugarra Bahinduka, says the government is moving deliberately to cut prices for domestic tourists who visit the tourist attractions run by Government.

There have been cases of human-wildlife conflicts in the conservation areas. The Minister said that the government is doing all it takes to protect both the animals and the people. He cited the ongoing fencing of the boundaries between wildlife reserves and People's land.

John Makombo, the Director of Conservation at the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) said that the government is compensating people with complaints arising from damage caused by wildlife and released 90 million ugx to compensate the affected.

The Hon. Mugarra appealed to journalists to report positively on Uganda to attract tourists to the country.
